# Set up sales tax on the store

> Where sales tax is configured on a Coriolis WooCommerce store, and what you confirm before launch.

Sales tax on a Coriolis store is calculated in WooCommerce from the rates set at setup. You confirm the states you collect in and the rate your accountant gave you. Coriolis does not file your returns and does not guess a rate.

## Confirm the rates

1. Open WooCommerce, then Settings, then Tax. Automated taxes are on only if we connected a tax service for your install. If that toggle is off, the standard rate table is the source.
2. Check each state you ship into. A state with no row charges nothing. That is correct only if you do not have nexus there.
3. Confirm shipping is taxed or not taxed the way your accountant specified. The toggle is on the tax row, not on the shipping zone.
4. Place a test order to a taxed state and to a no-tax state. The order totals should match the table.

## What to send if a rate is wrong

Send the state, the rate you want, and whether shipping is taxable. Do not paste a screenshot of a customer's full address. A zip-level exception is a separate request. We do not turn on a tax service mid-ticket without you asking.

This is a store setting. It is not legal advice. Your accountant owns the rate and the filing.

Tax rates are set at setup. What setup includes on each plan is listed with [FFL website pricing](https://www.coriolisagency.com/ecommerce) on coriolisagency.com.
