What you need before you start
- Login to the registrar that holds the domain (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, or whoever you bought it from).
- The DNS records from your Coriolis setup note. Do not guess the target. WP Engine issues a specific CNAME or A record for the install.
- A decision on the hostname customers will see. Most stores use the apex (
yourstore.com) orwww. Pick one and redirect the other.
Point the domain
- Open the DNS zone for the domain at your registrar or at Cloudflare if the nameservers already point there.
- Add the record Coriolis sent. Typically a CNAME on
wwwto the WP Engine target, plus an apex record if your DNS host supports CNAME flattening or an A record. - Remove conflicting A or CNAME records on the same hostname. Two records on one name is the usual reason a cutover hangs.
- Set the other hostname to redirect to the primary. If customers should land on
yourstore.com, redirectwwwto it, or the reverse. - Tell Coriolis the records are in. We attach the domain on the install and confirm the certificate.
After it resolves
- Open the store URL in a private window. You should see your store, not the registrar parking page.
- Coriolis issues the SSL certificate on the install. If the browser warns about the certificate, wait for that step before sending traffic.
- Leave email DNS alone (MX, SPF, DKIM). Pointing the website does not move your mail.
